I rode in an ‘01 Crown Vic a few years ago in Los Angles, identical to the first car in that picture that had a little over 500,000 miles on it. Still felt tight as hell and ready to do another 500,000.
So Oppo, highest mileage car you’ve ridden in, what was it and how many miles?

My car has 215,000, but the engine has less. I’m sure I’ve been cabs with twice that though

One of our vans at work has 480k on it, and is actually one of our nicer ones. The others are mostly in the 300s, the nicest one is at about 230k. We also just got a pair of brand new Transits, which make all of the E250s feel like construction equipment.

My boss has an ‘01 Accord with 393,000 on it. He’s had it for nine years, and has put 250,000 on it since then.
He travels from Raleigh to Philadelphia almost every weekend, and has done many cross-country road trips.
He meticulously maintains it. It looks like it has closer to 50,000 on it.

Think the Transits will be able to take the beating that all the E250s took?

I’m pretty sure it’s my car at 170,xxx miles.
I’ve probably been on coaches or something that’s had more, but from the cars I know, it’s mine.

My uncle had an e36 318 with over 600,000 miles on it. I’ll type that again. My uncle had an e36 318 with over 600,000 miles on it. It was burgundy with a ragtop that was literally just rags. Thing was awesome. I wanted to buy it for LeMons, but some dealership gave him something insane like $3000 trade in value.

Escape Hybrid taxi had 520K or so - cabbie told me his shop was still running a Crown Vic with nearly 800K. NYC taxis are rebuilt again and again until the frame rots, apparently.

I’ve sat in Irv Gordon’s Volvo P1800... Y’know, the world record mileage car (it had about 3.1 million on it when I saw it) but it was nit moving, so that might not count... Next highest was my personal 1992 Alfa Romeo 164-s. It had just a bit over 410k miles on it when I sold it to a mechanic for parts and labor on a clutch job for my 2000 Toyota Corolla... I think the car made it to 500k before terminal rust of the rear sub-frame sent it to pasture... Where it was used as a farm car for a few summers... I think it may finally be dead though... My craziest ex-girlfriend knew the guy who had it at his farm and stole (pried with a crowbar) the cloisone badge off the trunk lid for me... How... Uh... Sweet... Of her... Yeeeeah.

Rode in a Mercury Grand Marquis taxi in Florida in 2012 with 560,000 or so miles on it. It was gross. The seats were so oily and grimy I almost fell off.

Thats the question on everybody’s mind. The E250 seems more tough, since it’s kinda primitive and truck based. I mean we don’t do a lot of off road stuff with them, and we generally don’t leave them idling at a job site while working. I’d wager they hold up pretty well...after all, he Transit definitely isn’t NEW, it’s just new in the United States...things been around forever in Europe and they seem to hold up well over there.

And how do you do that? Just curious, looking into getting a tdi

Keep your oil + fuel clean-replace what needs fixing—+ drive. I rebuilt the motor at 220k ( I was working as an automotive machinist-so its like a baker making himself a cake) I’m more lucky the body has held up this long in New England.

1987 4Runner with 860k, cosmetically and mechanically poor, such that getting in felt like the body and suspension were at war and it would end with the body being impaled by the suspension. We pushed that POS out of the shop and told the owner to get it roadworthy or not to bring it back.
3 of my cars have had well over 200k, but could have passed for much less than that.
